Titanic trivia

The two most famous ships of the Titanic story, besides Titanic herself — the SS Carpathia (which came to Titanic’s aid) and SS Californian (which didn’t) — were both sunk by German U-boats in World War 1. By then both were under other masters, and their captains on the night of Titanic’s sinking (Arthur Rostron of the Carpathia, hailed as a hero; and Stanley Lord of the Californian, vilified as a goat), had moved on to other commands and eventually retired and then died of old age.
