Trump calls overwhelmed hospitals “complainers”

“The complainers should have been stocked up and ready long before this crisis hit,” tweeted the president …

President Trump unleashed his vitriol today on states and hospitals who have requested medical supplies to cope with the Covid-19 pandemic, calling them “complainers” who should’ve stocked up on those supplies before the crisis, Huffington Post reported.

“’Some have insatiable appetites & are never satisfied,’ Trump wrote in one of two tweets scolding states and health facilities that he claimed have already received ‘massive amounts of medical supplies’ from the federal government.”

Trump’s latest insults come on top of inflammatory remarks he made last month, to wit:

“‘The federal government’s not supposed to be out there buying vast amounts of items and then shipping. You know, we’re not a shipping clerk. We’ll help out wherever we can,’ the president said at a news conference in March.”

His position seems clear:

“Trump, who has praised himself over his handling of the outbreak amid widespread criticism of his government’s haphazard response, has repeatedly brushed off reports that hospitals and other medical providers are experiencing a shortage of tests, ventilators and personal protective equipment for workers. He has also insisted that it’s the responsibility of state governments to find their own solutions.”

In other words, fend for yourselves, and don’t expect any help from him, because he doesn’t see that as his job. Read the story here. But there’s even more to this story: As you may have read or heard by now, back in 2009, Maine GOP Sen. Susan Collins successfully stripped $870 million of pandemic preparation funding from that stimulus bill. Read that story here.

Comment: Collins is Maine’s problem, and it’s up to Maine voters to do something about her; but Trump is our problem, and do we really want this braying jackass to be our president for another four years? Chances are this won’t be the only crisis or national emergency to occur — and be mishandled by him — during a span of 8 years. The survivors of this one can only wonder: What next???
