The Arabic-language Masa Press news website reported on Monday that the US forces have entered Yemen to cooperate with their Saudi counterparts to support the US trade cargos in Bab al-Mandab strait.
It added that the US forces were stationed in the city due to Washington’s fear for Iran’s retaliation for the assassination of General Soleimani.
This is most likely propaganda. There is no military reason for the US to deploy in Yemen, unless it is to after Iranian supported rebels and the revolutionary guard members assisting them. There are friendly African nations on the other side of the strait to operate out of or southern Saudi Arabia.
This is most likely satire. But there is a military reason to deploy U.S. troops to Yemen — fight al Qaeda — and the U.S. did so temporarily in 2017 for that reason.
