Racist bank employees call 911 on black doctor who only wanted to open an account

Anthony Onyegbula, M.D., a cancer specialist practicing in Georgia, believes employees of United Community Bank in Henry County profiled him when they called police thinking he intended to rob the bank. “I feel like he’s up to no good,” a teller told the 911 dispatcher, offering little reason beyond the fact he was wearing a hat. But Dr. Onyegbula only wanted to open an account, he told police when they confronted him a few minutes later. Bank officials apologized for the incident, but didn’t say whether the employees will be disciplined or receive racial sensitivity training.
