TRUMP’S HATE SPEECH

Back in the nineties, the Donald ran full-page ads in New York City newspapers:

“BRING BACK THE DEATH PENALTY. BRING BACK OUR POLICE!”

Trump told Larry King. “Of course I hate these people and let’s all hate these people because maybe hate is what we need if we’re gonna get something done.’

The group of five black teenagers were exonerated in 2002, after another man confessed to the crime and DNA evidence backed up his confession.

Yes a group of five teenagers did generate a lot of feelings. A lot of people hated them because of what they allegedly did and they were hung in the hall of public opinion. Not because they were black, but because of what they did. They could have been white, greasers, latino, ect. and they would have been equally hated and not given all their rights under the New York or US Constitution and the crowd would have hung them from a tree in central park.
It is in part what gave New York a mayor with certain programs. None were overtly racist, but they certainly fell on some communities harder than others.
It is no accident that we have more black people or latinos in prison than whites. No one can ignor what is clearly institutional racism, but it existed well before the Trump article and at worst the article created impetus for more law enforcement, and oops more institutional racism. There is no easy solution on this one. I do believe poverty does create crime in neighborhoods of poverty and if you compare a white poor neighborhood with a poor black or latino neighborhood the numbers will be close. If you compare wealthy white, black or latino neighborhoods those numbers will again be close. Any additional enforcement of laws is going to hit poor neighborhoods harder and have little or no impact on wealthy neighborhoods. The folks in the wealthy neighborhood maybe as criminal as the poor folks but as Dillinger pointed out they tend to do their stealing with a fountain pen.
Arguable those newspaper adds were successful and a long term investment for Donald Trump. Who knew in the 90’s some jag off realtor could become President. Next time you speak to a realtor just think they could become President one day. Realtors must be America’s most trustworthy people, who knew?
