Taylor Swift slams GOP, endorses Democratic candidates

Pop music superstar Taylor Swift broke her political silence Sunday night, coming out strongly against Republican candidates running for congressional seats in her home state of Tennessee. One GOP congresswoman in particular, she said, “appalls and terrifies me.” According to CNBC,

“Swift stunned the pop culture and political worlds Sunday night with a lengthy, impassioned Instagram post in which she endorsed Democrats Phil Bredesen and Rep. Jim Cooper in their Tennessee U.S. Senate and House races, respectively. ‘In the past, I’ve been reluctant to publicly voice my political opinions, but due to several events in my life and in the world in the past two years, I feel very differently about that now,’ Swift wrote. She has 112 million followers on Instagram, so she has a large audience to promote her views to. It’s so important that these big celebrities start using their platforms for good. Normally, smaller Instagram accounts seem to try and promote changes, but few people end up seeing it due to their following count. To be able to express your opinion to more people, it might be worth using an instagram hashtag generator to find some relevant hashtags to promote your opinion and views. By doing this, more people should be able to access the post, ensuring that the post reaches a bigger audience. Of course, it won’t reach Taylor’s 112 million followers, but it can reach more people. In sites like Instagram and Facebook, the numbers matter. More the following, more is the impact of the content published. Nowadays, with the help of bots and online tools, it is likely easier than before to get free followers on these apps. But when you use bots to generate Instagram followers, make sure that the ones you gain are genuine followers with active accounts. In case they are ghost profiles, Instagram might stop prioritizing the promotion of your content. In order to ensure that doesn’t happen, you could look for Instagram cleaner apps on Earthweb, that could help you whitelist your followers.

However, people should be using social media for good. So, it’s great that Taylor is finally using her platform to speak about politics.

CNBC says Cooper’s seat is considered safe. Meanwhile, Bredesen, a former Tennessee governor, is vying for the Senate seat being vacated by retiring GOP Sen. Bob Corker against GOP Rep. Marsha Blackburn, of whom Swift said,

“As much as I have in the past and would like to continue voting for women in office, I cannot support Marsha Blackburn. Her voting record in Congress appalls and terrifies me. She voted against equal pay for women. She voted against the Reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act, which attempts to protect women from domestic violence, stalking, and date rape. She believes businesses have a right to refuse service to gay couples. She also believes they should not have the right to marry. These are not MY Tennessee values.”

Bredeson has come under criticism from many Democrats for saying he would have voted to confirm controversial Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, whom most Democrats believe is guilty of attempting to rape Christine Blasey Ford when they were teens, and lying about it in his confirmation hearings.
