Coming to America to Learn About Slavery

 This is shocking. I admire Chimamanda for her success but her revelation that she did not learn about the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade in high school in Nigeria is shocking to me. I went to high school in Nigeria and I learned everything there was to learn about the slave trade taught by Mr. Ayorinde, a graduate of History from the University of Ife (Obafemi Awolowo). She was not born before the Biafra civil war but she wrote her bestseller Half of a Yellow Sun based on the war. Hmm. I attended C.A.C. Grammar School, Efon Alaaye Ekiti class of 1980. I’m still proud of the excellent education I received. Or is it possible that she would not have become successful if not for her uncle, the late Chinua Achebe. Boy! Wish I had a well known uncle. My literary career could use a boost right now.
