Ted Nugent: “Shoot Democrats on sight”

Ted Nugent isn’t a musician; he can’t play an instrument or carry a tune. He makes his living, if you want to call it that, by making noise. Most of the noise he makes is nothing you’d call “music;” he’s a prolific trafficker in rightwing violent rhetoric.

Why does he do it? Simple. To cash a paycheck, he has to call attention to himself. So the noises he makes are reliably outrageous; for example, several years ago he was investigated by the Secret Service for remarks some people interpreted as advocating President Obama’s assassination. The only thing he pleaded guilty to, though, was a hunting violation in Alaska (having to do with wounding a bear).

A headline lasts only so long, and slime trails eventually dry up, so Nugent has to constantly figure out ways to attract renewed attention to himself. A few weeks ago, he called the kids who survived the horrific school shooting in Parkland, Florida, “poor, mushy-brained children.” Even that didn’t last very long, so … he’s back at it again.

This time Democrats are his target. Literally. In an interview with rightwing conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, who has called the Sandy Hook shooting a “hoax,” Nugent urged his listeners to “keep your guns handy,” and every time you see a Democrat, “shoot one, like a rabid coyote.” (Read story here.)

While some people who listen to Nugent and take him seriously might be a problem, you don’t have to worry about Nugent. He’s a lousy shot.

Photo: Who’s he kidding? This draft dodger can’t even hit a bear at 30 feet.
