SC legislators propose monument to black Confederate soldiers

There’s just one little hitch: There weren’t any, at least not from their state, according to historians. Apparently recruiting slaves to fight for slavery wasn’t a slam-dunk even back in those days. Read story here.

Photos: As Confederate monuments tend to be statues of white guys (left), and given that black Confederate soldiers are in short supply, maybe South Carolina could arrange to borrow Pittsburgh’s “happy slave” monument depicting a Negro playing a banjo at the feet of a white composer (right below).
