“It is ironic that while the democratic system itself became discredited, the radicalised mass electorate which remained in being switched its support to anti-democratic extremist parties of the left and the racist-nationalist right. While it is not technically correct to argue that Hitler was Voted into power’, there is no doubt that the support of over a third of the German electorate gave Hitler and his Nazi colleagues an enormously strong bargaining position.”
