Comment by SMS: Georgia’s Sixth … Now What?

Tom Cole, R

“This is the kind of seat Democrats would and should focus on, and where they need to win,” Oklahoma Rep. Tom Cole(R)

The Georgia primary on Tuesday to replace Tom Price was not about the Republican candidates, it was about President Trump in a deep red district,  Trump  lost.  The “other” candidate, Jon Ossoff a 30 yo Democrat running for his first office,  got over 48% of the vote.  Despite a huge amount of pro Trump spending, Trump actually lost in almost all parts of the sixth Dostrict other than the most red.

Oklahoma Rep. Tom Cole(R) said it right, he said that  the vote was a cathartic act for Democrats.  “It tells me first this race was much more about the president than it was about any of the candidates.” “We needed everything to go right last night and, frankly, it did,” Cole said. “And, the president was a big part of that.”

Yep, so what now?

Ossoff needs all the big guns … Bernie, John Lewis (his previous mentor), Dean, Perez, Jerry Brown, Warren.  The list should not be just the political establishment.  Public figures who have spoken out against Trymp should join this fight  .. a litany of leaders representing not the DNC but the Resistance to Trump.  The movement needs to  be more than a rehash of 2016, it needs to show that the anti-Trump movement that’s kicked up in the wake of the election isn’t going to translate into political power.

“This is the kind of seat Democrats would and should focus on, and where they need to win,” Cole said.
