The truth about “job killing regulations”

“Job-killing regulation,” a phrase invented (or, at least, first popularized by The Great Dissembler, Ronald Reagan), is one of those wonderfully catchy phrases whose propaganda power lies in its ability to sound true even when it isn’t.

“But the idea that regulations stunt job growth more broadly is not supported by research.” Ouch. Facts.

Thus, while regulation may cause concentrated job losses in isolated industries at certain times, in terms of the broad economy we don’t have to live with dirty air and water (and what that does to our health) as the necessary price of making a living, not matter how much Republicans argue otherwise.

Comment: For that matter, we don’t have to make Planet Earth uninhabitable, either. We can slow down climate change and still eat if we so choose. It’s a question of the choices we make.
