CHINA: A New Moon Rises Over the Wailing Wall

a-new-moon-rises-over-jerusalem China, as the rising  world power, could become the “go to” peace maker.

Trump’s campaign rhetoric was jingoistic and anachronistic. His US will move to an isolationist and nationalist  pettiness that  abandons the  traditional role of the US, as heir to the British Empire and the world cop.
Policies centered around WWII ideas of a global army will not work in the 21st century.  The alternative may be a Chinese century built around Mao’s idea of a foreign policy based not on ideology but on projection of China’s interests. This means that trade is the weapon rather with America’s aircraft carriers and ICBMs merely as guarantors of the corporate interests of the Chinese imperium.

Israel and Palestine may be the test bed of this new form of global rule.  Israel’s right wing  Education Minister Naftali Bennett says

“Trump’s victory is an opportunity for Israel to immediately retract the notion of a Palestinian state in the center of the country, which would hurt our security and just cause. This is the position of the president-elect… The era of a Palestinian state is over.”  Backing this up  the Netanyahu government is passing laws to legitimize the west bank settlements.

Before celebrating the Netanyahu government’s vision of a”a greater Israel,” Mr. Bennet should look east at the red moon rising over the Temple mount.

While Trump campaigned against Nato, threatened a nuclear Japan, and demonized Muslims and Iran, Chinese leader Xi Jinping just addressef Arab League in Cairo before planned visit to Iran.  Xi announced millions in aid to Palestinians and supported establishment of East Jerusalem as the capital of Palestine.
