Vulcan names veteran tech exec to be CEO

Bill Hilf, general manager of Hewlett Packard Enterprises’ cloud-computing unit and a former Microsoft executive, will take the post Dec. 1.

Bill Hilf, a Hewlett Packard Enterprise executive, will replace Paul Allen, as CEO of Vulcan.

Vulcan is the umbrella group that controls the sprawling set of entities that carry out Allen’s diverse interests from sports teams to a conservation-oriented census of Africa’s elephants.  Along with Amazon, Vulcan’s real estate/construction arm dominates the new Seattle.  All this with  about 450 people.
