Farrakhan on Nigeria

Minister Farakhan gave the best responds to a ridiculous question. Corruption means a different thing to the western media from what it means to the rest of the world. If the National Riffle Association contributes to the campaign of Senators and Congress members to avoid tampering with gun control, it’s called lobbying. If the Jewish lobby demands support for Israel from everyone running for office before they could receive contributions, it’s called protecting the interest of the best ally the US has in the Middle East. Meanwhile hundreds of thousands of Palestinians live in apartheid conditions in their homeland. This is what Minister Farakhan refers to corruption and undeniably, it is corruption far worse than what obtains in Nigeria.

I wonder if you are right here? What is the issue in Nigeria? Is it lobbying groups? Shell? Is it tribal rivalries? Personal wealth? I have read that Nigeria is the walthiest cuntry in Africa based of GDP/person. Is thus true?

Yes. But the constitution never addressed how political groups can raise funds. So they resort to a very crude way of doing it- request that all those seeking office must contribute a large sum to the party apparatus. Usually, those who contribute the most are fielded for the most lucrative offices from governors, senators and assembly members. There is only one way to raise such huge amounts – government coffers. Those in positions of managing government resources would divert such to hedge their bets on politicians that would guarantee their positions which creates a vicious circle of graft feeding graft.

The American or the Nigerian? The American institution was written fr a single party state and does not address parties at all. There is a real need here for new law that discriminates against the us of welath to control the media.
