The GOP’s November strategy

CNBC explains how the GOP is scheming to bestow on us another national leader we didn’t choose (read the story here):

“The strategy has three main stages:

  1. Lay a groundwork for major party donors and leaders to refuse to support Trump even if he wins a majority of the delegates.
  2. Get behind one of the remaining GOP candidates, and give him the financial support and enough political cover to run even as a third candidate in the November race.
  3. Play Electoral College math and hope that no one wins the required 270 electoral votes in November. That throws the election into the heavily GOP-controlled House and gives the presidency to the establishment-blessed Republican.”

Roger-Rabbit-icon1By the way, if a presidential election goes to the House, each state gets one vote. The GOP controls 33 state congressional delegations, so this House clearly won’t choose a Democrat no matter what the popular vote is. But what if Clinton got 45%, Trump 30%, and Rubio 25% in a 3-way race in which no one won 270 electoral votes, would there be riots in the streets if the House tapped Rubio? Could he govern? What if the House chose someone who wasn’t even on the ballot, such as Romney or McCain? This illustrates why many consider a deadlocked election a nightmare scenario.
