Michael Hood: Returning to Seattle

Michael Hood PhtoMichael Hood at Hotel Oloffson.· Port-au-Prince, Haiti ·

Dear Facebook friends and others:

I’m sitting in the dear old, peculiar yet decrepit Oloffson in Port Au Prince having had real breakfast. This has been a hang place for writers, local media, and other international types since Graham Greene and John Barrymore.
I’m not relishing this stay– today I’m departing Haiti, flying to Seattle at noon. I’m sad/glad to be heading home. The tulips and daffodils await me in the cold, cold dirt. And, of course, the goddamned shotweed.
I had curtail my writing on FB, for the last couple months, posting only fotos, and having to devote my waning energy to the work at hand. I can’t multitask in my old age and besides, Haiti was hugely distracting.
I am–god knows–not finished with my book; it’s still in front of me. I have an editor who has really helped with focus.
My fotos will have to go back to catching people talking to themselves on the way home from work on the lite rail. I’ll be sued one of these days.
I will be writing, and posting fotos and I guarantee: you will hear a lot more about Haiti.
