Graham blasts Trump for aiding the enemy

Declared or not, America is at war. Our planes are bombing ISIS. We’re sending Special Forces to Syria. Our country was just attacked by terrorists sympathetic to ISIS. Ask Americans if we’re at war with ISIS, 99% of them will say yes.

Aiding the enemy during time of war is a hanging offense. It’s a form of treason. That’s why it’s beyond extraordinary to hear a Republican presidential candidate accuse another Republican presidential candidate of aiding the enemy. But that’s exactly Sen. Lindsey Graham said about businessman Donald Trump this week. Read it for yourself:

“I want to talk to the Trump supporters for a minute,” Graham said. “I don’t know who you are or why you like this guy.” … Graham went on to say that Donald Trump is ISIL’s man of the year. He said that the military leadership and the diplomatic corps are concerned about Trump’s rhetoric because ISIL will use it against us. “What was a concern last week has to be DEFCON4 this week,” Graham said. “Because what Mr. Trump is doing, and I don’t think he has a clue about anything. … He is putting our soldiers and diplomats at risk. He is empowering the enemy.”

That’s strong language. And it has cred coming from a guy with 33 years of military service and colonel’s rank (Graham), speaking to a shmuck who wriggled out of the Vietnam draft (Trump).

Is Trump really a traitor, or just a clueless opportunist exploiting ugly racism to score points with primary voters? I don’t think anyone would accuse Trump of being stupid, so there’s more to this than bad judgment — but probably not enough to bring federal charges, because the intent of helping the enemy is missing. Plus, if you indicted Trump, you’d have to indict all his supporters, too.
