Should British universities grade students using an American-style system?

Going for that 4.25!

Britain has a very weird system … probably not even understood by anyone there since it was created around the same time as the war of 1812.  Britain, of course won that war.

Actually, if there is a change, the new system will not effect Oxford and Cambridge .. A spokesman for Oxford says: “We have no plans to consider GPA at this time.” A Cambridge spokesman gave the same response with a bit more emphasis on the “we.”

The new system is more global. Employers want to know more about who to hire.  The 0 to 4.25 scale  would give that extra detail, parsing the students’ performance  to two decimal points. The .25 advantage of the British system, in a global job market, give the best British students and extra edge with employers who want more information about the candidates they are considering for jobs.

The proposed system improves on the American system of 10 to 4.0 by another .25 … allowing the best student to score 4.25,  In terms of the previous jargon, , the 4.25 is  equal to a high First.  3.75 would be equivalent to a low First and a 3.50 would be a good 2.1. Zero would be a fail.  There is no replacement for the The Oxford First, presumably someone unfortunate enough t go to Oxford would never get such a score anyway.
