A Zionist Answer to War, in Honor of My Daughter’s Namesake

Before out first child was born, my wife and I chose “Haviva” to name our daughter after an amazing heroine .. Haviva Reik a Palestinian Jew.

Haviva  Reik was one of three Palestinian Jewish women who went on a suicide mission behind the Nazi lines.  Using their language skills to help organize resistance, all three were killed after being captured by by the Nazis.

Today in this Israel and Palestine, in this yet again repeated cycle of violence, Givat Haviva, offers an alternative to hatred and war between Jews and Arabs.  Since its founding in 1949, Givat Haviva has served as the educational center of Hashomer Hatzair and the Kibbutz Movement. Yad Yaari is the research center of Hashomer HaTzair and the Kibbutz Movement.aims to build an inclusive, socially cohesive society in Israel by engaging divided communities in collective action towards the advancement of a sustainable, thriving Israeli democracy based on mutual responsibility, civic equality and a shared vision of the future.
