The University of Washington’s interim president, Ana Mari Cauce, no longer has “interim” preceding her title. The Board of Regents gave her the president’s job yesterday by a unanimous vote after a competitive selection process that attracted nearly 70 candidates. The Seattle Times describes Cauce, a U.W. employee for 29 years, as a “rarity” among university administrators who climbed through the ranks from assistant professor to the top job. Universities typically recruit leaders from other schools. Cauce has been interim president since last spring, when former U.W. President Michael Young was hired away by Texas A&M.
