Housing in Seattle

Single-family zones (in Seattle)  are being accused of being “exclusionary,” implying that they are racially exclusive. As the article in Crosscut  says, this is historically false. Of all the 15,000 or more multifamily units built or permitted recently, none–zero–are 3+bedrooms, because it is more profitable for developers to build a 2BR plus an efficiency on the same square footage. For large, immigrant families, the only choice is to rent a SF house. Twenty percent of SF houses are rentals and they help make Seattle more diverse and affordable for families. Our neighborhoods do not exclude people on the basis of race nor homeownership.
