Howsit SC said it could not lower the damned flag to half mast?

BreeBree Newsome, a 30-year-old youth organizer from Charlotte, North Carolina and James Ian Dyson also from Charlotte, climbed a flagpole in Columbia early on Saturday morning and removed the Confederate flag flying in front of the capitol building. Sadly, the damned flag was raised again at South Carolina Statehouse after woman climbs pole to remove it. There will be a rally by supporters of the damned flag later today.

James Ian Dyson

Newsome was halfway up the 30 ft pole when police demanded that she climb back down, but she continued upward and removed the flag. When Newsome returned to the ground she and Dyson were arrested by capitol police and taken to a detention center. Newsome and Tyson were charged with defacing monuments on state capitol grounds, a misdemeanor that carries a fine of up to $5,000 and a prison term of up to three years, or both.

The group responsible for taking down the flag on Saturday morning is a “multiracial group” of “regular human beings” who “believe in the fundamental idea of humanity”.

If a nonviolent activist can get three years for removing a symbol of racism and hate from a public monument, then how much time should a white cop who kills a black person get? In most cases, the answer has been “none.”
