This town north of Charleston SC has recently become famous for the murder by a policeman of an unarmed black man trying to run away. The Mayor (a white man in a city where the largest ethnic group is Black) has served for 21 years and got praised .. after a passerby released a video of the event .. for firing the cop and charging him with murder. Meanwhile the police force is 75% white and has had a number of similar episodes of police violence against Blacks folks.

This is nothing new. When I was a kid, manufacturers outsourced the textile industry from New England to the former Confederacy. Then the jobs went to China. Is South Carolina a way station on a train that takes American Jobs to China?
Well we may soon know. Boeing, aided and abetted by the same well established system that has elected North Charleston’s white mayor and white city council, as well as by the State government, is campaigning against an effort to unionize the workers in North Charleston. Of course the establishment meme is .. these jobs too may go to China.
UPDATE: The national union has withdrawn its application. According to NPR, the anti-union culture in South Carolina is just too strong. The union can try again after six months.
