North Charleston, South Carolina. White cop. Black driver. Traffic stop. Another dead black man. Shot in the back while running from the cop, who claims he fired in self-defense and believed his life was in danger. The cop, Michael Slager, claimed the victim, Walter Scott, grabbed his Taser. Slager didn’t know a passing motorist took video of him picking up the Taser and placing it next to Scott’s body. This happened Saturday morning. Today Slager was arrested and the mayor told a press conference he’ll be charged with murder. Several other South Carolina cops have been charged recently for questionable shootings. It seems they enforce their laws against murder and manslaughter there. Why is South Carolina the only state holding killer cops accountable?
