Rebels declare ceasefire in Colombia’s 50-year civil war

This is certainly a big day for foreign policy news! Marxist FARC rebels have declared an “indefinite” cease-fire in Colombia’s civil war that has been raging since 1964. The government, however, seems reluctant to negotiate.

I’m not personally a big fan of Marxist revolutions. Marxists usually are totalitarians, and their economic system sucks, too. (So does ours, but arguably not as badly as theirs, although we’re getting there.)

No, these aren’t righwing militia nuts playing “war” in the Idaho northwoods. They’re FARC rebels fighting a real war in Colombia.images
