I can understand why the inbred good ol’ boys and gals like it there — it’s better to be a minnow in a little pond than a big one — but why would any who works for a living want to live in a state notorious for cheap labor where even aerospace workers make only $10/hr? I don’t understand that.
I think people choose to live there because they are uncomfortable living in places where their normality is challenged. It is not the pond size, it is the fantasm of being just like all the other fish around them. Imagine how the Aryans and Aryan wannabees felt about Hitler’s Germany! Among Jews living in such places, they enjoy being able to pass for white. I can even imagine Israelis who choose South Carolina to get away from dealing woth the cheredi and the ethiopeans.
On the other hand, I suspect few Somalis would choose to live there! A Somali told me that there current favorite American city is Minneapolis .. as place where diversity is celebrated.
