Anti Semitism in Europe

Almost 60 years after  my father and other Americans discovered Buchenwald in the beech forest around Weimar and 75 years since Kristallnacht sent German Jews to that camp,  a poll of European Jews has found that 75% live in fear because of the rise of anti Semitism.  30% have considered emigrating.

The fear is not over wrought.  Openly antisemitic governments have come to power in Hungary and Austria.  Parties as big as America’s Tea Party vie for power in France and Poland.  On a local level public antisemitism, some fostered by muslim immigrants but other by local nationalists has reared its head even in Norway and Sweden.

Even in the US where we have enough Jewish members of the Tea Party to prevent calling those people racists,  Christian triumphalism .. the idea that Jews are parts of God’s plan to destroy Judaism itself makes me see these Jews the way I see the Jews who collaborated with Hitler.
