Who Is A Jew? Schwartz Pride and the Nobel Prizes!

So, who won this years Nobel Prizes in Biology and Chemistry?  Based on their names and, for two, origins in Israel, five of the six are Jews!

Why do I take pride in this?  On October 1, a poll released by the Pew Research Center revealed that over 60 percent of American Jews consider Judaism to be “mainly a matter of ancestry and culture.”

Only 15 percent say they are “Jews” by religion.

Does anyone care how many of these Nobelists pray to the Jewish Deity or keep kashrut?  Of course not. for me, as a Jew, this is a matter of great pride.  Sadly, as these posts about my family, not all Jews take this view. 

This confusion is anything but new.  Tacitus saw the Jews as atheists because we did not believe in the official gods.   Instead we said we believed in this abstract, almost Platonic, force … what Mel Brooks later called The Schwartz!
