Is Microsoft Buying a Basketball Team?
The media report that the Sacramento Kings are being sold to Chris Hansen and Microsoft MSFT +0.56% chief executive Steve Ballmer.
Ballmer is said to be a devoted pickup basketball player with a reputation for having mean elbows. But, that is not all! Steve Ballmer has a net worth of $15.7 billion and is a University of Washington football fan. In a recent interview with The Wall Street Journal, Ballmer marked the years since a Microsoft strategy announcement by how long Steve Sarkisian has been head coach of the Huskies football team. (Mr. Sarkisian was named head coach in 2009.) Given Mr. Balmer’s less than wonderful management of the Gates’ franchise, perhaps Mr. Balmer is coming to a time in life where he could mimic Phil Knight and buy the UW athletics program?
