THE-Ave editor on the other hand, is quietly happy. During his campaign against Hillary, the Barack I saw was the no-drama-Obama, university lawyer who put getting things done over rhetoric and political theater.He was right.
I READ the original white paper that the 08 campaign used to argue that healthcare reform had to begin with something achievable and something that would create a less complex American healthcare system that could eventually host a single payer system. The latter IS Obamacare, The central reforms will mean that insurance companies finally need to compete across state borders (a John McCain idea) and the mandate (with kudos to Mitt Romney) means those same companies will now to provide affordable care for ALL Americans.
Yep .. I said ALL. The left is still screaming about 23 million uninsured, but we have real data .. Romney care now insures all but a tiny fraction of people in Massachusetts. Obamacare should work the same way across the nation.
The original white paper did address single payer. This new system will (finally) force the free market to work. The insurance companies now have the need to compete. IF they can not do so and can not contain costs, the only solution will be single payer.
