Seattle Times: Massive manhunt after ranger slain at Mount Rainier

I have never understood the idea that a gun is defensive. Would a 
rifle have protected Ranger Anderson?
I suppose she might have been OK if, armed with her own assault weapon, the Ranger and the Vet could have had a shoot out on Mt. Rainier. Same for Mr. Santorum. How does he imagine that bombing Iran would solve our problem with nuclear proliferation? Would he then bomb North Korea and Pakistan? I suppose the idea is that we, like Mr. Bolton, are bigger and stronger than the other guys. So, if we shoot first we win! .. Just like, appraently, Mr. Barnes has won.
Curiously, this happened just as the state election committee was redisricting ex Sheriff Dave Reichert’s eight congressional District. The sheriff got his job based on claims to have found the Green River Killer, another murdering thug prowling our outback. The new District is built around Mr. Rainier.
