Local Reporter Makes it in Real Journalism, al Jazeera!

Just Found: this bit of prophecy from Michael Hood at Blatherwatch:

Dorothy Parvaz  entered Syria last   April  to cover the  protests She  was not heard from for the next nineteen days.  Syria Parvaz deported, an Iranian born Seattle deported the Iranian born reporter to to Iran.  After world wide protests,  Dorothy was released by Iranian authorities.

excerpted from Blatherwatch. D.Parvaz, was a reporter, columnist, and on the editorial board of the late Seattle Post-Intelligencer, and also appeared on a panel with other local reporters discussing the news Fridays on Weekday with Steve Scher. Dorothy’s a first generation Iranian, and presumably speaks Farsi, which must have helped get her this dubious assignment in Iran where she’s reporting that anti-government protests are heating up again.

She’s based in London, now but we’ll remember her as fearless – as when she walked around Seattle in a burkha in the emotionally-charged anti-Muslamic days after 9-11, then writing a long piece about the experience.

We’ll never forget her original reporting on absinthe smuggled deliciously in from Vancouver BC, and the people who drank it. That was an important story, but we liked her best for talking back to Sean Hannity after she wrote a non-offensive blog post at which he and others at Fox News took Great Umbrage.

After appearing on Hannity, she turned down Billo Reilly, which caused Billo to sic one of his attack producers on P-I Publisher Roger Oglesby as he got out of his car coming home one evening with his gym bag.

It was all great fun and caused O’Reilly to eventually name the dear old Seattle P-I as the “worst paper in the country” and Oglesby a “pinhead.”

Al Jazeera has often been the the best if not the only news out of the erupting Middle Eastern countries. Parvaz notes in a tweet from Egypt that Fox News (who’s called AJ a terrorist organization) wouldn’t admit they were getting all their news product from…Al Jazeera.
