NIMBY: Neighbors vs. Neighborhood Cafe

Ed. I get complaints that TA is always about BIG issues, here is my answer:

One of my neighbors sent me an email that I would like to endorse,  We live on Capital Hill and one of the best parts of this place is the small stores and restaurants scattered here and there.  One of these is the  Volunteer Park Cafe.

They are trying to expand, bit are meeting opposition from their immediate neigghbirs because a successful budsiness does attract parking.   The Seattle Department of Planning and Development will be hosting a   public meeting http://lists.alwaysfreshgoodness.com/t/r/l/jywlty/nlrhjthyh/r/> to discuss the cafe’s rezoning application on April 25th, at 6PM, in the  Stevens Elementary School cafeteria, two blocks east of the cafe at 18th .Ave. E and E. Galer St.

If you have any questions in advance of the meeting, please contact the Commission at [email protected] or forward this email to a friend:

Well, let’s let them have a crack at expanding their business. Having been a “neighbor” of that property since 1970, I’d say GIVE THEM A CHANCE.

In all honesty, I’m not taken by their baking — but others seem to like the place, and it is better than “Groucho’s” and earlier efforts. Yes, some parking is impacted, but really, are all you immediately adjacent folks up that early on Sunday mornings?
