Are we going to dumb down the internet?

Steve Jobs says the day is approaching when not everyone will need a traditional computer. Fair enough .. but I fear that his vision is for more centrally controlled, spoon fed media … aka “television.”

Much of the excitement of the last ten internet years has been the sheer creativity of people at their PCs, enticed by games or blogs, but becoming authors on their own.

I hope that Jobs is wrong.

I think what Jobs means is that you’ll be able to do all that you write about with a device that’s simpler than a computer.

Just think, it wasn’t so long ago that the computer industry had to argue that people needed computers.
